I found part of the reason that I have not been able to get through to the children’s home was that the 10-dollar phone is not working. I had sent an iPhone 3 that had been donated and it worked for about 5 years.
They bought the inexpensive one because that was what was in the budget. It lasted about 3-4 months. They are going to have to get another one because although they do not make outgoing calls, that is how I call them and send messages when I need to send the money for their weekly needs, etc.
If anyone has an old smartphone; iPhone, Samsung, etc. preferably an ATT phone, and would like to donate it, it would be a great help. I say smartphone because that allows me to send much of the information that I need to get to them when they do not have access to the computer.
The saying that you get what you pay for really holds true here.
