This weekend, I called the children’s home to give Inday some information about business matters. The signal was good and we got our business resolved quickly.
Two of the children, Leeray and Dindo, wanted to talk to “Daddy”. Since we had a good signal, I told her that I would talk to them for a couple minutes. They both talked to me on the phone and asked if they could have food.

I talked to Inday to make sure that I was understanding what they wanted. They had had their meal earlier but were hungry again. It wasn’t that they were wanting ice cream or something special, they just wanted some rice. I told Inday to make sure that she fixed more rice so they would have to go home and go to sleep on an empty stomach.
I know it is so common for the children there to miss meals that they rarely say anything, but it still hurts me to know that they are hungry. I have told them that they can ask for anything. Often, I will have to say no, but I tell them why. Sometimes I can say yes. In this case, I was able to make sure that they had a need met.
