It is time to start thinking about Christmas gifts for the children. Why so early? And also, I would invite you to participate if you are able. At the end, I will tell you how you may do so.
I am scheduled to go to the children’s home the end of October through the first of November and plan on taking small gifts with me so I know that they are there on time.
Larger gifts will be sent in a balikbayan box which goes by ship so the delivery time can be irregular. I have had them take from 45 days up to 4 ½ months to be delivered.
The box will leave north-central Indiana and go to Chicago where it will be loaded onto a shipping container. From there it will go by rail to the west coast where it gets loaded onboard a ship. It will then cruise for several weeks to get to Manila.
It will get unloaded from the ship and the shipping container will be unloaded. The thousands of boxes will be sorted for the various routes and islands that the service handles. It will be repacked on the next leg of its journey. Once it gets to Mindanao, it will be put on the trucks for the delivery center where it gets put onto trucks for delivery to the children’s home.
Are you tired yet? Just thinking of the loading and unloading makes me tired. That is why we start thinking early.
